My journey with bicycles began before I could even understand what it meant to ride. At just two years old, my grandfather placed me on a tiny bike, gave me a gentle push, and said, “Cycle.” That moment ignited something deep within me—a sense of movement, freedom, and wonder.
Years later, when I was eight, I stood on a street corner in the bustling, tourist-filled city of Latakia. I watched in awe as a traveler on a tricycle crossed in front of me, as if in slow motion. My mind filled with questions: How far had he come? Where was he going? How was this even possible?
met Sandra in Berlin, and we quickly discovered that we shared the same dream. Before this journey, we had only cycled across Europe, with our longest trip lasting just one month. But after obtaining my German passport, I wanted to go beyond borders and truly understand what it means to be privileged. I wanted to share this feeling with people around the world, to ask them about their own definitions of privilege and happiness, and to explore the many questions that had been on my mind for years.

Hi, I’m Sandra! Yes, I’m German, but no, I don’t have a driver’s license, and no, I don’t drink beer. (I know, I know—I’m basically a German unicorn!) What I do have is an insatiable curiosity for this incredible planet we call home and a dream to explore every corner of it. And hey, maybe one day, I’ll even take that curiosity to space. Why not aim for the stars, right?
It all started when I was studying, listening wide-eyed to my classmates’ stories of adventures abroad. While they were jet-setting across the globe, I was quietly dreaming of the day I’d hop on a bicycle and see the world at my own pace. Fast forward to now, and the stars (or at least the roadmaps) have finally aligned. I’ve got the courage, the time, the resources, and—best of all—the most amazing cycling partner to share the journey with. Together, we’re turning those “someday” dreams into “today” adventures.
